Knights Tally First Win

Knights Capture First Win

The Nashua Silver Knights got back into action today following a loss on opening day yesterday where they fell just short to the Worcester Bravehearts. The Knights showed flashes in the loss, but they could not put it all together in the end. Today, they looked to change that as they headed to Worcester to finish the home-and-home series with the Bravehearts.

The Knights starter in this one was Nate Kelleher-Mochak out of Springfield College. In his first start of the season, the lefty would get tossed around early as he got himself into trouble in the first. After allowing two straight baserunners Jackson Marshall would step up to the plate for the Bravehearts and smash one out of the park for a three-run homer to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

The Knights' offense got off to a slow start in this one, going scoreless through the first three innings. In the fourth, however, they struck, as Jake Haarde of Penn State drove in Joe Zorc to put the Knights on the board.

After the first Kelleher-Mochak was great until the fifth inning where he got into more trouble that ended in two more runs for Worcester as Joe Frazzetta blasted a two-run shot over the fence. The Knights would then send in Rob Gilchrist to the mound who was great in relief. He went three innings letting up an unearned run on one hit.

In the sixth, the Knights' offense started to rally again as Jake Acker and Jake Haarde both got on base. Ernie Little then drove in both runners as he doubled to right field. In the seventh inning, both teams would trade runs as the game was tied 6-6 going into the 8th.

In the 8th the Knights offense went to work again as they rallied for the third time in this one. Hardee started the inning with a walk and he would come all the way around to score along with Little who singled in his at-bat earlier in the inning. The Knights bullpen was stout in the 8th as they would shut Worcester down.

In the 9th the Knights packed on even more insurance as River Hart drove in a runner on a fielder's choice. Following Hart, Little would reach on a wild pitch to score the Knights's tenth run of the game. In the bottom half of the frame, Brandon Metivier came in and shut the door to secure the Knights's first win of the season.

Standouts from this offensively were Little as he went 4-5 with 3 RBIs and Jake Haarde who went 1-3 with two walks while coming around three times to score. The Knights following the win will be back in action at home on Friday versus the Vermont Lake Monsters.
