Knights Roll In Brockton 13-2 Before All-Star Break

Two days after the Silver Knights romped through Brockton in a doubleheader sweep, Nashua returned to the south shore for a Sunday meeting and their final game before the all-star break. It's been quite the week for the Knights as they held a three-game win streak, but the boys in red and black will need every game they can get with the season winding down.

In the 48 games played this season, Nashua has never held a four-game winning streak.

Until now.

Nashua picked up on Sunday right where they left off in Friday’s beatdown, putting up 13 runs in a seven-inning mercy rule-shortened afternoon. 13 runs on Sunday marks the Knights’ fourth time in the last five games scoring double-digit runs in what has been an offensive tear of a stretch.

Eight of the ten Silver Knights who played recorded a hit, with six posting multi-hit days. Stonehill’s Nate Kearney took the podium in the box score, in a 3-5, 4 RBI game for the 2024 all-star. Keene State’s Tommy Ahlers added two more RBIs to his massive total, with four other Knights recording RBI on the day.

Similar to the prior Brockton visits, it was a Nashua crooked number in the early going that allowed the Knights to pull away with ease. Seven runs in the first inning launched them to a commanding lead before most fans could even get their popcorn.

On the mound, Saint Anselm’s Andrew Chenevert made his usual Sunday start. Chen, now a two-time all-star, was looking for better success than his last two outings where he did not make it past the fourth.

With his offense giving him plenty of breathing room, Chenevert delivered five strong innings with two earned runs and four strikeouts. Once recording four straight wins, a Sunday victory versus the Rox got Chen back to form as he now has wins in five of his last seven.

In the third, the Knights put up a four-run inning with the team having a mercy rule win in their sights. Kearney roped an RBI single in the inning, which gave him RBI knocks in the first, second, and third frames. After three, it was 12-2 Nashua.

It was smooth sailing for the Knights bullpen following Chenevert’s five frames, trying to get out of Brockton early and head into the break. Rivier’s Nolan Mederos, Endicott’s Kyan Bagshaw, and Maryland’s Andrew Koshy all put up two-thirds of an inning while keeping the Rox at two.

After Bagshaw’s two-strikeout performance, Koshy entered to close the door with a strikeout in the seventh and final inning to win 13-2.

On a four-game heater, the Knights will get some time off before returning home for a meeting with the Futures League Road Warriors on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
