Just a short week ago, the Silver Knights found themselves in a rut. Losing four straight to fall to 15-21, Nashua was fading in the Futures League standings with time dwindling. However, one Sunday bus ride to Connecticut would alter the Knights’ outlook and potentially their season.

Wednesday’s 12-4 win against the Sea Unicorns at Holman gave the Knights their third straight victory, reaching this feat for the second time this summer. It was also Nashua’s third straight win against Norwich, sweeping the away-away-home stretch versus the second-place squad.

A 12-run performance put the Knights past three-game total to a whopping 31 runs, posting double-digits twice in that span. Rutgers’ Owen Carey took the spotlight with five RBIs, including a mammoth shot over the right field advertisements for a two-run homer. Keene States’ Tommy Ahlers also added three RBIs in what was an offensive blitz of a performance from Nashua.

Six Silver Knight runs in the third was the difference maker in the offensive clinic, with Nashua posting an inning with four or more runs in each of their last three wins. Their capability to put together big innings has been an ace up their sleeve as of late, scoring 41 runs since getting shut out on the Fourth of July.

Southern Maine’s Jason Libby, with a cushion behind him, was good in his seventh outing of the season. He tossed five innings on two earned runs which was enough for the Knights to enter cruise control.

Behind the Knights’ two RBI leaders in Carey and Ahlers, Nashua steamrolled to a home win. Taking three straight games against a playoff team is no small feat, as the Knights will be challenged with a similar task as they will open a four-game stretch against Vermont.

Nashua, before heading to VT for three straight games over the weekend, will welcome in the Lake Monsters on Thursday night for a 6:00 PM first pitch.
