Nashua’s season of up and downs landed on the latter on Wednesday night, with the Knights falling 3-1 in Norwich.

Similar to Tuesday’s game two loss, the Knights took the lead early ahead of the opposition. Endicott’s TJ Liponis doubled to lead off the fifth, coming around on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 Nashua.

Pace’s Vinny Civitella had his best start of the season, throwing four innings of scoreless baseball with four strikeouts. Norwich got hits early but nothing came of it with Nashua holding a 1-0 lead after five.

Nashua was nine outs away from their second straight win off the Futures League top team, but the Sea Unicorns did not go quietly into the night. Off AIC’s Anderson Cuello Batista, Monmouth’s Alan Porter III knocked home Norwich’s first run to tie 1-1.

In the eighth, Lehigh’s Liam O’Hearen looked to aid the Knights to a possible extra inning or tiebreaker win. Norwich, however, had other plans. Three hits turning into two runs led to a pivotal inning for the Unicorns as they held a 3-1 lead heading to the ninth.

Eight of the nine Nashua hitters recorded a hit on Wednesday night, but they were not able to convert the tally into runs. A one-run night in Connecticut marked the Knights’ fourth one-run night of the season, now 1-2 to start off July.

Needing a quick turn around, the Knights will head back home for a special Fourth Of July matchup with Westfield. Nashua and the Starfires are set for a 11:00 AM first pitch at Holman Stadium.
