A sweet start for the Silver Knights quickly went sour on Tuesday night, falling to the Bravehearts 7-6 in 10 innings after leading 5-0. Nashua’s six straight innings of no runs opened the door for Worcester to plate two runs in the 10th, with Nashua only scoring one in their attempted rally.

It was a story of two different teams at Historic Holman Stadium, with the red-hot Knights showing up in the first three innings before quickly fading away. After their three-run explosion in the first three innings, Nashua left eight runners on base in the last seven innings of the game and did not score until extras.

Nashua had a plethora of chances, having runners in scoring position in the last four innings of the game. Tough breaks did not help the Knights’ cause, such as Central Michigan’s Drew Lokits missing a walk-off home run by mere inches and a close play at first for UMass Lowell’s Scott Donahue that resulted in out number three instead of the winning run.

Holy Cross’s CJ Egrie capped off the Worcester comeback with an RBI double in the tenth, later coming around to score on a wild pitch. An RBI single from Stonehill’s Nate Kearney brought the Knights within one but it was “too little too late” in the one-run loss.

Lehigh’s Andrew Noone and Kearney helped the Knights grab the lead early with RBI singles, as passed balls and errors helped Nashua try to pull away. Similar to their 5-0 win on Sunday versus the Road Warriors, the Knights looked to handle business out of the gate.

Pace’s Vinny Civitella pitched well before running into trouble in the fourth in his start, giving up two earned runs with Worcester cutting it to 5-3. Nashua’s pitching staff tried to pick up the pieces, but the Bravehearts caught runs off Vanderbilt’s Aidan O’Connell and Wake Forest’s Andrew Koshy to tie it up in the eighth.

Endicott’s Kyan Bagshaw came in following Koshy, getting a huge two-out bases loaded strikeout to move the game to the ninth. UMass Lowell’s Andres Hulfachor got the ball trying to extend the game, but Worcester finally broke through in the tenth.

Penn State’s Adin Zorn was the lone Silver Knight in the multi-hit column, going 2-5 with a run. Aside from Zorn’s stellar day, the Nashua lineup was quiet with just three hits from the heart of the order.

A roller coaster of an evening leaves the Silver Knights at 7-12, starting their week off with a loss. Looking to get back on track, Nashua will hit the road for a Wednesday night meeting with the Bees. New Britain and the Silver Knights are set for 6:35 PM first pitch.
