Following a day where everything seemed to go right for the Silver Knights, it quickly went wrong on Wednesday in a 10-5 loss to Brockton on their second Education Day.

Brockton bounced back from being shut out on Tuesday by Nashua with a double-digit outing. Vanderbilt’s Aiden O’Connell struggled in his first start of the season, giving up four earned runs in just two and ⅔ innings.

For the offense, it was a quiet day at the plate from one through nine. Despite just four hits on the day, Nashua was able to push a run across on an RBI sacrifice fly from Fitchburg State’s Adam Koza to make it 4-1 after four frames.

Rivier’s Nolan Mederos settled down the Rox with three and ⅓ innings of scoreless baseball to keep the Knights in it. Despite Moderos’ stellar outing, sloppy defense was a thorn in the Knights’ side all game long, with five errors on the day. Nashua’s blunders opened up the Rox scoring with two in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Down 10-2 in the ninth, it seemed the Knights would go down quietly in front of a boisterous crowd at Holman Stadium. Delta College’s Justin Blumenthal and Husson’s Kevin Connolly kept Nashua’s hopes alive. With two base knocks, including Connolly’s RBI single, the Knights slowly crept back into it.

After a couple of walks and errors, the Knights had three runs across in the inning with the bases loaded. One swing away from making it a one-run ballgame, the glimpse of hope exited Holman with a game-sealing double play turned by Brockton.

With two Education Days filled with highs and lows in the books, Nashua will head on the road on Thursday to take part in Worcester’s Education Day. First pitch between the Silver Knights and the Bravehearts is set for 10:30 AM.
