Week two of the season signified a big spot for the 2024 Silver Knights. Not only is the team hosting two Education Day games during the week, but the Knights are eager to climb back into the mix after a 1-6 start to the year.

In front of hundreds of loud and passionate young fans, Nashua put together a gem of a game to win their second game of the season over Brockton 3-0.

It would be Penn State’s Will Perkowski and Colby’s Tom Rioux putting the Knights on their back with nine combined shutout innings. Perkowski, in his first start of the summer, threw four hitless frames with four strikeouts on the day.

Tough to top Perk’s start, Rioux did exactly that with eight strikeouts and only one hit in five innings. Tuesday’s outing brings Rioux to eight scoreless frames across two appearances on the season so far.

Nashua’s lineup looked to support their pitching staff with the game remaining scoreless through four. After two quick outs, Lehigh’s Andrew Noone worked a five-pitch walk to keep the fifth inning alive.

UMass Lowell’s River Hart was due up next. Coming off five RBIs in his last two games, Hart wasted no time adding to his total with an RBI double to bring Noone home. Halfway through the morning battle, the Knights had cracked the scoreboard.

Nashua wasn’t done adding there though, as a two-run sixth inning was headlined by a RBI single from Noone. Spearheaded by Noone and Hart, the Knights’ 1-4 hitters put together a four-hit day with two RBI.

Three runs was all Nashua needed to seal the deal, with Rioux sitting down the Rox 1-2-3 in the ninth. After a down week from the Knights’ pitching, an excellent day from the staff was just what the doctor ordered to move them to 2-6.

With Education Day #1 in the books, the Silver Knights will look to replicate Tuesday’s success with another Education Day morning meeting with Brockton. First pitch between Nashua and the Rox is set for 10:30 AM Wednesday.
