Knights End Week With Loss

A cold, gloomy day in eastern Connecticut was the scene for the Silver Knights’s Sunday encounter with Norwich. After getting blanked in a 8-0 loss exactly a week ago by these same Sea Unicorns, Nashua looked to return the favor on Norwich’s turf this time. However, the Sea Unicorns once again did damage against the Knights in another Sunday edition with a 6-2 victory.

Holding the highest ERA in the FCBL entering Sunday, the Knights ran into another tough day on the hill. Colby’s Thomas Rioux got his third start of the season with the Unicorns getting to work early off the right hander. A two run Norwich first lagged Nashua behind early as Rioux finished the day with four earned runs on nine hits.

Nashua did not have their worst day at the plate, especially coming off a quiet night against the Rox. In the fifth, Clark’s Ryan Caulfield stung a two run single to right to cut down a three run Norwich lead. Nashua was now threatening, only down one run, however the Sea Unicorns kept their foot on the gas.

Norwich finished Sunday with 14 hits, marking their third straight game with 10 or more hits as a team. Following Caulfield’s RBIs, the Unicorns added three more runs with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Now up 6-2, the lead seemed out of reach for a Knights offense that was still trying to piece it all together.

Nashua would go silent in the next four frames to mark their second loss of the year to Norwich and second straight loss overall. After a much needed offday on Monday, the Knights will have a three game road trip to try and rewrite the script as they now sit at 2-8. First stop for the red and black will be in Vermont on Tuesday for a 6:35 PM matchup against the Lake Monsters.
