Knights Head into Break on a Loss

(Leominster, MA): The Silver Knights jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, but could not hold on late as they fell 8-5 against the Bravehearts on Saturday Night in a game with potential playoff implications down the stretch of the FCBL season.

In the second inning, John Mead (Franklin Pierce) would single and later score on a Luke Beckstein (Kansas State) single. Nick Shumski (Merrimack) walked and would later steal home during a Nick Perkins (Endicott) at-bat.

The Knights would give up five runs in the bottom of the fifth and were not able to recover from the deficit. Worcester’s home half was highlighted by a Ben McNeill (NYIT) 2-RBI double and RBI singles by EJ Exposito (NYIT) and Ben Rice (Dartmouth). Nashua got back three in the eighth inning, cutting the lead to 8-5. Ben Rounds (Harvard) hit his third home run of the season, a 2-run shot. Beckstein would add his second RBI single of the night to finish the Knights scoring. Defense was a bright spot for the Knights with only one error.

Joe Quintal (Fordham) took the loss for Nashua in his start. He went 4.1 innings, giving up 6R, 4ER, with 3BB and 6K. Angelo Baez (St. Thomas Aquinas) picked up the win for Worcester, his second of the summer against Nashua. He went 6 innings, giving up 2ER on 5 hits while walking only one and striking out 8.

Nashua falls to 14-11, 2.5 games behind Worcester for the number one seed. They remain one game ahead of Brockton for second place. The Knights will travel to North Shore on Thursday after four days off which will include a scout day before that matchup. The Silver Knights will return to Holman Stadium for a 3-game homestand on Friday.
