Starfires Mistakes Lead to NSK WinThe Silver Knights looked to get back to even on the season Friday against the last place Westfield Starfires. It didn't start out well for Nashua, in the hottest game of the season, play certainly showed it. Westfield put up 3 runs in the 2nd inning and another in the 4th to take a commanding lead. Errors were the issue for Nashua early on as starting pitcher, Nolan Collins (Bates) gave up 5 runs, only 2 of them earned.
However, in the home half of the 5th, the Starfires would catch the error bug as well. Nashua exploded for 7 runs, taking an 8-5 lead. The big blow of the inning came off the bat of Phoenix Hernandez (SNHU) who uncorked a 3 run, bases loaded double into the left-center gap.
The Starfires would chip back to within 1, but insurance runs in the late innings from Connor Blandini (SNHU) and Dylan Jones (Franklin Pierce) set the table for a 6 out save from the left arm of Kyle Skidmore (Hofstra)
The Silver Knights are back to .500 again and sit 3.5 games out of first place. They will be taking on the Pittsfield Suns on Saturday in the seaon's final Salute to Service Game. Game worn jerseys will be auctioned off up until 8pm tonight, and presented to winners of the auction on the field following the game. |
