Knights

Today, the Nashua Silver Knights hosted the New Britain Bees following Saturday's game, which was rained out. The Knights came into this game riding hot, at 2-1 in their first three games. They would ride the momentum into this one, as the team started off hot. 

In the first Cole Patterson got on base and was driven in by a Jake Haarde single before an out was even made making the score 1-0. The Knights starter in this one was Ethan Hunt who pitched a great game in his four innings of work. Hunt allowed five hits and only one run while striking out three. New Britain's lone run against Hunt would come in the fourth as Brandon Gaer doubled to center field. 

The Knights offense would respond to the Gaer RBI double as in the bottom half of the inning with two on base Joey Current would blast one over the fence for a two-run homer giving the Knights a 4-1 lead in the ballgame. In the 5th it was more of the same as the Knights again put pressure on the Bees as they got two runners on base. Current would be at the plate and he delivered again as he blasted his second home run of the game to give the Knights an emphatic 6-2 lead following another New Britain run in the top half of the inning. 

The bullpen for the Knights was fabulous all day as Andrew Chenevert, Matt Mahoney, and Jake Boudreau combined for a total of five innings allowing only one run that was credited to Chenevert. Mahoney in particular impressed in his first outing of the season. The Colby College incoming Sophomores fastball topped at 94 which was blown by hitters. 

In the 6th the Silver Knight offense kept going as Dylan Littlefield doubled in Haarde and Jack Kidwell scored on a Joe Zorc putout making the score 8-2. The Knights would grab two more runs in the game to make the final 10-2 over the visiting Bees. Dave Yorke and Jermey Ramos both singled in runs in the 7th inning to put the final insurance on this one. 

Offensively the Knights were led by Current who went 2-5 with 5 RBIs. Ryan Strand also went 3-5 on the day as his average climbed to .333 on the young season. Patrick Shrake also continued his hot start as he went 3-3 with two runs scored. The Knights will have an off day tomorrow before hosting the Worcester Bravehearts on Tuesday at home. 

Manager Nick Guarino said that in the win “I saw great situational hitting along with baserunning,and the pitchers did their thing on the mound”. The Freshman skipper for the Knights is now 3-1 and will hope to keep that going against the Bravehearts on Tuesday.
