It has been an interesting last couple of days for the Silver Knights. Nashua has been making up rainouts and postponements for the last three days, including a doubleheader and tripleheader on Sunday and Monday. 

This unusual schedule has not been kind to the Knights, losing their last five of six. Nashua would head back up to Vermont for their final test of the unorthodox road trip, their fourth game in Burlington in their last seven.

Needing a lift in spirits, the Knights took Tuesday’s meeting 8-4 in their first normal nine-inning matchup since Friday. 

Nashua’s offense would be at the forefront of this ballgame, scoring eight runs on eight hits. A five-run fourth inning for the Knights would be the difference maker, with Vermont touching the scoreboard til the sixth.

After two walks and a single from SNHU’s Nater Wachter, the Knights would rattle off three straight RBI singles to jump out to a 3-0 lead. 

New England College’s Luca Giallongo, Amherst’s Jack McDermott, and Eastern Nazarene’s Shane McNamara would put together the single trifecta with McDermott bringing home two on his knock. Nashua would add two more later in the big inning for a 5-0 lead.

Against a team like Vermont, keeping their foot on the gas would be key for the Knights. Northeastern’s Will Fosberg would do exactly that, smoking a two-RBI double in what would end up a three-run sixth for a whopping 8-0 lead.

In his 13th outing of the summer, Nichols’s Brandon Metivier had arguably his best performance of the season. Metivier would throw five shutout innings before getting in trouble in the sixth, striking out three on three hits.

Vermont would finally get to Metivier in the sixth, tallying three runs off the Nashua righty. Northeastern’s Ryan Griffin would come on in relief, but Vermont would stay hot and get one off in Griffin as well.

Even with the four-run inning, Nashua’s lead was too much to handle for the Lake Monsters. Griffin would close out the rest of the ballgame easily, only giving up one hit after the sixth in the three scoreless frames. Griffin would get the Monsters 1-2-3 in the ninth to give NSK the 8-4 win.

Snapping their tough skid, Nashua will try a piece together a winning streak when they return to Historic Holman Stadium to face Vermont once again. Nashua and Vermont are set for a 6:00 PM first pitch on Wednesday.
