Knights Offense Goes BananasFriday, July 28, 2023 By: Dan Allison | Silver Knights media relations In the most anticipated event of the year, Historic Holman Stadium would fill to the top of the barrel with the return of beloved Nashua mascot, Monkey Boy, set for Friday evening. But with all eyes on the off-the-field antics, the Silver Knights put on a show of their own with a 22-run offensive explosion in a 22-2 win over Westfield. As fans filed in and Monkey Boy made his first appearance of the night, the Knights got to work immediately at the plate. Following three walks to lead off the second, WPI’s Kyle DeRoma would mark the signature moment of the night with a moonshot over the left field wall for a grand slam. After DeRoma’s blast, Holman’s energy was off the charts with the Knights never looking back offensively. Nashua would turn the scoreboard into a Powerball drawing, with the Knights posting six in the second, two in the third, and a whopping seven in the fourth. Holding a 15-0 lead, Saint Anselm’s Andrew Chenevert was able to perform with a big cushion. Chenevert made sure there was no monkey business going on for the Starfires at the plate, tossing six innings on three hits with only one earned run. Cruising on both sides of the ball, the Holman faithful were able to kick back and enjoy the buffoonery from the Gate City’s favorite Baboon. Monkey Boy was up to his classic antics, dancing and messing around with umpires on the field. Alongside Barstool’s Chris Klemmer, Kyle Bauer, and Nick Turani, Monkey Boy’s return to the spotlight was a night to remember with some new acts mixed into the loop. Nashua would add seven more runs to their total on the night with Westfield posting two runs to avoid the dreaded shutout. As the final out was put into the books, the Knights filed onto the field to celebrate the big win on the big night. Before the postgame festivities of fireworks and running the bases, Monkey Boy took a bow one last time to the Holman seating bowl. Soon after, fans took in the Friday firework show with running of the bases and autographs right after. After a picturesque evening, the Knights will try to ride this Monkey Boy momentum on the road with a Saturday meeting set against Vermont. Nashua and the Lake Monsters are set for a 6:05 PM first pitch. |
