Needing to rack up wins with time running out on the season, the Silver Knights had a great opportunity to pick up a W and two points in the standings with a trip to Brockton on the docket. Brockton still sat 8 games back of Nashua in last place, but the two teams have dueled in their prior 2023 meetings.

It did not come easy, but the Knights were able to come back and top the Rox 5-4 in 10 innings for their third straight win over the Brockton ballclub. Wednesday’s matchup marked Brockton and Nashua’s fourth straight one-run game, and the second meeting to go into extra innings. 

Down 4-3 heading into the ninth, the resilient Silver Knight squad would post runs in the ninth and tenth to steal the victory back from the Rox. Clutch hits with one out in the ninth from SNHU’s Nater Wachter and New England College’s Luca Giallongo set the table for Amherst’s Jack McDermott to single Wachter home for the tying run.

In the 10th, Nashua would continue to keep their lineup moving with base hit after base hit. Mount St. Marys’s Shane Wockley and Colby’s Brady O’Brien went back-to-back with one-out singles, but a flyout right after would put the Knights in jeopardy of stranding the go-ahead runs. 

In stepped Northeastern’s Will Fosberg, and on the third pitch Fosberg saw, he snuck one just past his college teammate Chris Walsh at second to bring around Wockley’s pinch runner in another Northeastern husky Nate Lam. After being two outs away from two straight losses, Nashua was able to get out of Brockton with the win.

But before the late-game heroics, this matchup looked like another one to fall out of the Knights’ grasp. Nashua held onto a 3-1 lead for most of the ballgame, until Brockton added two in the seventh and one in the eighth. SNHU’s Trevor Anibal allowed eight hits in his start but was excellent at limiting damage with only one run coming across in his five innings of work.

Following Anibal’s outing, it would be another tough outing for Nashua’s bullpen. Endicott’s Kyan Bagshaw allowed two runs to come across on five hits for Brockton to tie it up. Assumption’s Alex Meesig took over in the eighth after Bagshaw’s two frames and gave up the go-ahead run with three hits in the inning.

Luckily for the pitching staff, their offense would give revive them with their late push. Wake Forest’s Will Ray took over on the bump in the ninth, getting the job done with two hitless innings in which he earned the win.

Nashua was able to steal one at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night, but the Rox will have a chance to enact revenge with Brockton set to visit Holman on Thursday. First pitch for Nashua and Brockton will be at 7:00 PM, with the game set to be broadcasted on NESN.
