Just four days removed from Jack McDermott’s monster game against the Lake Monsters, another Silver Knight pieced together a massive performance in Nashua’s third straight victory against Vermont 8-5.

Shane McNamara headlined the victory with a first-inning grand slam, ending his night with five RBI and three hits. McNamara and the rest of the four through six hitters were the motors behind the Nashua offense, as Will Fosberg had a three-night of his own with two RBI. Brady O’Brien tallied a hit to give the three a 7-12 night with seven RBI. 

After Nashua’s starter, Thomas Riouz got out of a first-inning jam, the Knights quickly were in striking distance with two walks and a double from McDermott to load the bases with no outs. McNamara stepped in and on the first pitch he saw, McNamara laced a ball to his designated home run spot off the left-field advertisements to give the Knights a whopping 4-0 lead on the grand slam.

Nashua ended with eight runs on nine hits, giving the Knights one of their highest single-game run totals of the summer. Vermont found themselves in an opposite situation as they were shut out through the first six frames of play, leaving eleven runners on base with over half of them stranded in scoring position.

As Vermont had trouble getting on the board, the Lake Monsters finally pushed some across with two in the sixth and one in the seventh. Rhode Island’s Brandon Hsu came on in the eighth and ninth, shutting down the Monsters in the eighth frame. Despite the momentum following the lockdown frame, Hsu ran into some issues in the ninth, with two runs coming across to make it an 8-5 ballgame.

Nashua’s nerves started to grow with the potential tying run coming to the plate, as Wake Forest’s Will Ray came in to try and get Nashua to the finish. With runners on first and second and one out, Ray was able to force a groundball. 

O’Brien. McDermott. Wolff. Ballgame.

Nashua was able to turn a double play, a two-out special that they turned three of in their last meeting with Vermont, to end the ballgame on a high note.

Following a tough loss on Saturday, the Knights were able to get back in the win column to start off their week. Nashua will be back in action at Holman Stadium on Wednesday night as they welcome in the Pittsfield Suns. Pittsfield and the Silver Knights are set for a 6:00 PM first pitch.
