On Friday, the Silver Knights turned back the clock in their second game of the week against Vermont. Not just due to the return of 2022 championship hero Kyle Wolff to Holman, but with the monumental performance from the 2022 postseason MVP Jack McDermott off his 4-5, four RBI night to aid Nashua to a 5-2 victory.

Losing their three-game win streak to New Britain the night prior, the Silver Knights bounced back in tremendous fashion for their second straight victory against the Lake Monsters. Behind McDermott’s night, the Knights posted a ten-hit day with six coming from the one through four hitters. 

On the bump, Nashua delivered by holding second place Vermont to two or fewer runs for the second straight meeting. Vanderbilt’s Nik Copenhaver pitched well in his second start, only giving up one hit on a solo blast to Wake Forest’s Jack Winnay. 

Following the blast by Winnay, the Knights would quickly match Vermont with a solo shot of their own. A third-inning home run off the bat of Amherst’s Jack McDermott distinguished what would end up as Vermont’s only lead. 

Friday’s matchup would sit knotted at one before a big fifth for the Knights. After a leadoff double from New England College’s Luca Giallongo, the Knights would push across two runs on errors and complimentary passes on the base paths, including a crucial plunk of Boston College’s Kyle Wolff with the bases loaded.

Vermont, while the scoreboard might not have shown it, was threatening in just about every frame. But behind some great pitching, elite defensive plays, and a little bit of luck thrown their way, Nashua was able to keep them at one for the majority of the game. 

Nashua would turn a whopping three double plays, with all three coming with runners in scoring position. Great plays by McDermott, Dayton’s Zach Scott, and Colby’s Brady O’Brien kept the Nashua lead intact.

In the eighth, a leadoff Zach Scott double followed by a walk and a hit by pitch set up the man of the hour in McDermott in another big spot. Already three for four with two RBIs on the night, Jack would find the hole up the middle for a two-RBI single. 

Back in ‘22 playoffs form, McDermott drew up deja vu for Vermont with now another monster game against the green and blue in his career. Vermont would add one more run in the ninth before Wake Forest’s Will Ray would close things out, ending with a 5-2 final.

Now winning their last four of five, the Knights will head back out on the road for their weekend slate. Nashua is set for 6:30 PM Saturday first pitch in Norwich with the Sea Unicorns.
