After falling 6-1 in game one of their Saturday doubleheader, the Silver Knights were able to salvage the two-game slate with a 2-0 shutout victory in game two.

Needing a bounce-back performance on the mound after giving up six runs in each of their last two games, Stonehill’s Braydon Gray provided the remedy for Nashua’s pitching woes. In four and ⅔ innings, Gray only gave up three hits in his scoreless start and gave a boost to the Knights’ shutout bid.

Despite Gray’s excellent performance, the Silver Knights also needed to step it up at the plate in order to avoid being swept. An offense that was shut out in game one came back to life with a two-run second inning.

Vanderbilt’s Cam Kozeal lined a single to start the scoring with Northeastern’s Will Fosberg coming around to score. Later in the frame, Dayton’s Zach Scott got aboard on a base knock with Northeastern’s Nate Lam floating a single to left to bring him in. Three big hits in the inning set up the Knights with a 2-0 lead that they would ride to the finish.

Westfield would load the bases off Gray in the fifth, ending his day with SNHU’s Zach Gitschier coming in to try and get out of the jam. Needing one more out, Gitschier would ring up Westfield State’s Dan Burnett as the Nashua dugout roared with excitement. 

With game two only being seven innings, Wake Forest’s Will Ray came on in the seventh to try and close out the shutout victory. Ray made quick work of the Starfires, striking out two on the way to the save.

Vibes inside Holman Stadium returned with the game-two victory as the Knights ended Saturday on a high note. Now with games coming up against Worcester and Vermont, Nashua will look to keep the momentum rolling against their top-of-the-standings rivals. 

Nashua and Worcester are set for a 3:00 PM first pitch on Sunday at Historic Holman Stadium.
