Knights Force Game 3(Nashua, NH): Everyone inside Holman Stadium knew that Nashua and Worcester were sending their best pitchers to the mound in game 2 of the FCBL Championship Series on Friday night and
expecting a low-scoring game. The Silver Knights pulled out a 5-1 win, but both starting pitchers
were impressive nonetheless.
Nashua scored all five of their runs in the opening frame off Hearts starter Angelo Baez (STAC).
Baez had not given up more than 2 runs in any of his starts this season. Troy Schreffler
(Maryland) and Nick Shumski (Merrimack) lead off the game with back-to-back singles. A Jared
Dupere (Northeastern) groundout advanced both runners. Kyle Bouchard (Nichols) followed
that important play with a single up the middle, scoring Schreffler and Shumski. Dylan Jones
(Franklin Pierce) singled and Ben Rounds (Harvard) reached on a fielder’s choice. With 2 outs
and a 1-1 count, Lucas Stalman (Boston College) sent a bomb over the left-center field wall to
give the Knights a 5-0 lead. Worcester would score their only run in the 3 rd , a leadoff solo home
run from Nick Martin (Westfield).
The story of the night was pitching. After their first inning outburst, Nashua only had 2 hits the
rest of the night. Baez settled in and worked four 1-2-3 innings while striking out 6 in his 6
innings of work. Nick Guarino was superb for the Knights. The Clark product went 6 innings,
giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. The Knights bullpen was also
impressive, Jack Dicenso (Nichols) pitched a scoreless 7 th , striking out 2. Chris Chaney pitched
the final 2 innings on just 30 pitches, while giving up one hit and also striking out 2. Chaney is
available to appear Saturday via FCBL pitch count restrictions. Brad Marchetti (Tufts) and John
West (Boston College) were strong for the Bravehearts.
The win for the Knights forces a winner-take-all game 3 on Saturday night at 6PM in Nashua.
Worcester will send Jack Steele (UMass) to the mound, while Nashua will call on Pat Harrington
(Assumption) to push them to their 5 th championship and first since the 2017 team, led by
Nashua GM Cam Cook. Subscribe to the FCBL Network and catch the FCBL Championship finale
