Bravehearts Take Game 1(Nashua, NH): Even playing as the road team at their home stadium, the Silver Knights left many opportunities on the field in their 3-2 loss in game one of the FCBL Championship Series, in
front of a season-high 708 fans at Holman Stadium.
Worcester wasted no time getting out in front as they scored 2 in the bottom of the first. New
addition Matt Shaw (Maryland) lead off the inning with a single and would score on a
groundout by Ben Rice (Dartmouth) after advancing to 3 rd on a wild pitch from Knights starter
Griffin Young (Wheaton). EJ Exposito, who walked, would score on a passed ball later in the
inning.
The offense on both sides would remain relatively quiet until the top of the 7 th , when Dylan
Jones (Franklin Pierce) walked to open the inning, and then Kyle Bouchard (Nichols) got the
perfect 3-1 pitch to drive over the right field fence to tie the game at 2. It was Bouchard’s 3 rd HR
in 9 games since joining the team. Silver Knights pitching kept them in the game until the
bottom of the 8 th , when in his second inning of work, Jack Pawloski (UMass) gave up 3
consecutive singles. The final of the 3 was an RBI single by Exposito to give Worcester a 3-2
lead.
Despite a shaky first inning, Young settled down and Josh Roberge (Wheaton) provided 2.2
scorless innings of relief for Nashua, only allowing one hit. The Knights also left 8 men on base,
including the tying run on 3 rd with one out in the ninth inning. FCBL Manager of the Year Kyle
Jackson pinch-ran Tom Crowley (Merrimack) for Ben Rounds (Harvard) to steal second and Max
Viera (Northeastern) bunted Crowley to third, but the offense could not come up with the
situational hit to tie the game.
Both starters were solid but did not receive decisions. Shawn Babineau (Franklin Pierce) picked
up the win, throwing a scoreless 8 th for the Hearts. Pawloski took the loss for Nashua, giving up
the one run on 3H and 3K. Jakob Barker (Valdosta) picked up the save for the home team.
The Knights look to bounce back in a win-or-go-home game 2 on Friday night at 6PM. They will
send Nick Guarino (Clark) to the mound to square off with Angelo Baez (STAC) in the
elimination game. If the Knights were to survive, the deciding game 3 would take place
