Knights

(Nashua, NH): The Knights finished their 4-game homestand 3-1 after a victory over the North Shore Navigators Monday night by a comfortable score of 10-2 in a game that saw the offense regain some fire power and the pitching remain solid. Nashua has eight games remaining in the regular season, 4 of which are at Holman Stadium. 

Nashua broke the silence in the 3rd, at which point Nick Guarino (Clark) had not given up a hit to the opponents. Troy Schreffler (Maryland) would double in Brady Day (Kansas State) who singled, for the first run of the game, and score on a Jared Dupere (Northeastern) RBI-single. Dom Keegan (Vandy Boys) would follow up with an RBI-double to score Dupere. In the 4th, Max Viera (Northeastern) would single to lead off the inning, Brett Anderson (Hartford) followed that up with his second home run of the season. 

Guarino would give up his only earned run of the season to this point in the 6th, when Ben Malgeri (Northeastern), who had singled, scored on a Jack Whorf (UMass) groundout. All of the six Navs’ hits in this one were singles. In the bottom of the 6th, the Knights would add 3 more. Nick Shumski (Merrimack) was hit by a pitch and came around to score on an RBI walk from Keegan. Schreffler and Dupere would score on a 2-RBI single from Dylan Jones (Franklin Pierce). All of the scoring came with two outs. Schreffler would single in the eighth and score on Keegan’s 7th home run of the season and 36th RBI. This one a no-doubt off the Bud Light sign in left-center field. That would cap off the Nashua scoring for the evening.

Guarino was flawless in his first start of the season, bringing his familiar reliability that fans are used to seeing out of the bullpen. He spanned 7IP, giving up 5H, 2R, 1ER, and 2BB with 4K on just 94 pitches. He is now 3-0 this summer with an 18/4 K to BB split in 18IP, as it seems routinely that the league opponents have no chance when he steps on the mound and is throwing strikes. Evan Christopulos (Bentley) took the loss for the Navs, going 3 innings and giving up 5ER on 8H, 1BB and 1 strikeout. 

Nashua remains on top of the league in team batting average (.272) and fielding percentage (.969). They are second in ERA (4.52) behind New Britain and still hold most individual records: AVG (Dupere 1st .392, Mead 2nd .359), RBI (Keegan 1st 36, Dupere 3rd 22), and wins (Young, Miller, Guarino T-1st with 3).

The SIlver Knights push their mark to 19-12 with 8 games remaining and are now 4 games ahead of Brockton for the final playoff spot. Nashua travels to New Britain on Tuesday night at 6:35 for the front end of a home-and-home with the Bees, returning to Holman Stadium on Wednesday at 6PM before a showdown with Worcester on Thursday at 6PM in Nashua.
