Knights Fall in HR Derby
(Leominster, MA): The Silver Knights found themselves on the losing end after a home-run derby result of 12-11 Sunday night, as they lost to the Worcester Bravehearts and fell to 4-5 on the season. Worcester improves to 4-3. The Hearts would draw first as they scored five runs in the third on five hits and an error by the Knights infield. In the seventh, Nashua would come storming back, scoring nine runs to take the lead. They were able to score five runs with the assistance of five Worcester errors on the night. Mike Rounds (UMass) got the hit parade started followed by Max Viera (Northeastern), Brady Day (Kansas State), Tom Crowley (Merrimack), and Luke Beckstein (Kansas State). Seven hits would help Nashua with the nine runs. The lead would not hold for long as Worcester would not go easily, they scored one each in the eighth and ninth to tie the game at 10. Brandon Dufault (Northeastern) got two quick outs in the ninth before Aidan Wilde (Stonehill) would reach on an error and score on a Joseph Pesce (NYIT) single. After the extra inning, the score was still knotted. Ben Rice (Dartmouth) would help Worcester win its second straight game via the HR derby rule. Nick Shumski (Merrimack) and Troy Schreffler (Maryland) took swings for Nashua in the derby. Per Futures League HR Derby rules, there are no winning and losing pitchers assigned. Nashua will return home on Tuesday when they play host to the Brockton Rox at 6PM before heading on a four-game road trip beginning Wednesday. |
