Chasing Seven: A New Era of Silver Knights Baseball Begins

As the summer sun rises over the city of Nashua it marks a return. The return is baseball and the pride of the city, the Nashua Silver Knights. This new group of Knights will prepare to defend the legacy of the past this season as the Silver Knights organization hones a record six championships in fifteen baseball seasons in the Collegiate Futures League. This year like in the past the diamond will be turned into a proving ground. The players will have a chance to turn this season's goal into reality as the message from owner John Creedon Jr. was to chase banner number seven.

This year of Silver Knights baseball might be the most intriguing in years as this year's team will look to get back on top of the hill. The club will also usher in new skipper Nick Guarino who takes over for the legendary Kyle Jackson who brought the Silver Knights four championships. This year's roster for Guarino will feature a mix of division one, two and three talent from across the country mostly centered around New England.

The team this year will be led by returning players Tommy Ahlers and River Hart who were both all-stars last season for the club. Ahlers will come into this summer fresh off a season at Keene State where he had a .426 average with 7 home runs and 48 RBIs. Hart is also coming off a good spring as at UMass Lowell he had 10 home runs to go along with 23 RBIs on the year while having a .951 fielding percentage.

The Silver Knights will also look to contributions from their other players including the likes of infielder Ernie Little who had another great year at Wesleyan. In the NESCAC Little erupted as he hit .324 on the year with 27 RBIs. Looking ahead to the season, he shared his excitement, saying he’s “looking forward to playing in front of the crowds” and contributing his skills to help the team succeed this summer.

Hunter Ward also comes onto the scene as one of the few hometown kids on the roster along with Nolan Mederos, Brandon Metiver, and Hart as they all hail from the city of Nashua. Ward will look to build on his spring performance with UMass Boston where he went 2-2 on the year in 25 innings pitched.

Pitcher Matt Mahoney is embracing the opportunity that summer baseball brings as he looks to bounce back following his freshman year at Colby College. “I’m excited to play with all these new guys in front of a great fan base and have a good time this summer.” When asked about the jump in competition from the NESCAC to the Futures League, he kept things in perspective, saying, “It’s still the same game at a higher level—a children’s game on a big floating rock.”

The Knights will need contributions from every level of their roster this summer if they hope to raise banner number seven. This season's team features a mix of talent across all levels of college with each player bringing their dynamic fold to the roster. With strong leadership,

local pride, and a hunger to reclaim their place atop the Futures League, the summer ahead promises to be one to remember in Nashua.
