The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Westfield Starfires on Friday night at Historic Holman Stadium in their final home game before the FCBL All-Star break, dropping a 3-0 shutout decision.

Westfield struck first in the first inning when John Calabrese (Bucknell) scored on an Easton Sanders (Louisiana Tech) fielder’s choice. The Starfires iced it in the seventh on a Morrie Fried (Brown) two-run home run to make it 3-0, and the Knights couldn’t find an answer all night.

Nashua was held to 6 hits and left 9 runners on base, managing little against Josh Mayo (Springfield College), who tossed 7.1 strong innings. Jack Dyer (Saint Joseph’s-ME) and Noah Farrell (Connecticut) closed it out in relief.

Nigel Cross (Wentworth Institute of Technology) started for Nashua and allowed just 1 run over 3 innings. Michael Cobb (Johnson & Wales) and Jameson Dobis (Bryant) combined to keep it close but the offense never showed up.

The Silver Knights fall to 20-23 as the Starfires improve to 16-25. Nashua hits the road Sunday for a doubleheader at Vermont before the All-Star break, with game one at 4:05 pm and game two at 6:35 pm.
