The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Westfield Starfires on Thursday night at Historic Holman Stadium and rallied from a 4-2 deficit with three runs in the eighth inning to win 5-4.
Nashua jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine) hit a two-run home run to score Mike Villani (Stony Brook). Morrie Fried (Brown) answered with back-to-back solo home runs in the second and fourth innings to tie it at 2. Westfield took the lead for good in the seventh on an Albin Valdez (Assumption) run and an Easton Sanders (Louisiana Tech) RBI single to make it 4-2.
The Knights responded in the eighth. Peter Fischer (Saint Anselm) drew an RBI walk to score Shanley Wall (Penn State), Mike Villani walked home Josh Turcotte (Wentworth Institute of Technology), and Vacchiano added a walk-off sacrifice fly to score Robby Grasso (Lehigh) and complete the 5-4 comeback.
Chase Carder (Wentworth Institute of Technology) started and allowed 2 runs over 5.2 innings. Zak Lussier (Misericordia) closed it out with 2 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
The Silver Knights improve to 23-33 as the Starfires fall to 19-35. Nashua returns home tomorrow night to host the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Historic Holman Stadium at 6:03 pm
