The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to Billy Bullens Field in Westfield on Saturday and snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Starfires.
Westfield took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Morrie Fried (Brown) singled home Cole Silvia (Iona). Nashua answered in the second when Hunter Troiano (Gannon) singled home Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine) to tie it. The Knights took the lead for good in the seventh when Mason Campagna (Penn State) reached on a fielder’s choice, and two unearned runs scored on a throwing error by Westfield second baseman Cole Silvia to make it 3-1.
Will Perkowski (Southern NH) was dominant, tossing 7 innings and allowing just 1 unearned run on 5 hits to earn the win. Chase Carder (Wentworth Institute of Technology) threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief, and Josh Martino (Southern NH) closed things out to earn his first save of the season.
The Silver Knights improve to 21-27 as the Starfires fall to 17-27. Nashua hits the road tomorrow afternoon to take on the Worcester Bravehearts at 4:00 pm.
