The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Westfield Starfires on Sunday afternoon at Historic Holman Stadium and dropped a 7-4 decision in ten innings, giving up four runs in the tenth to blow a late lead.
Nashua jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a Nate Kearney (Stonehill) RBI single and a Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine) sacrifice fly. Westfield tied it in the fifth on a Wyatt Raymond (Columbia) home run, and the Knights retook the lead in the sixth on a wild pitch that scored Connor Smith (Gannon) to make it 3-2.
The Starfires tied it again in the ninth when Cayden Van Dolah (Holy Cross) singled home Jackson Richard to force extras. Westfield then exploded for four runs in the tenth, with Albin Valdez (Assumption) and Morrie Fried (Brown) each driving in runs and two more scoring on wild pitches to make it 7-3. Nashua added a consolation run in the bottom of the tenth but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Ty Lohsen (Lasell) started and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings. Brendon Doughty (Fitchburg State) was solid in relief, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just 1 run. Brandon Metivier (Wheeling University) took the loss after the Starfires broke out in the tenth.
The Silver Knights fall to 22-32 as the Starfires improve to 19-31. Nashua returns home tomorrow night to host the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Historic Holman Stadium at 6:03 pm.
