The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Worcester Bravehearts on Wednesday night at Historic Holman Stadium and took care of business early, building a big first-inning lead and holding on for an 11-8 win.
Worcester struck first on a Hunter St. Denis (University of Maine) two-run home run in the top of the first. Nashua answered with five runs in the bottom half. Connor Smith (Gannon) launched a three-run home run, and Mason Campagna (Penn State) followed with a two-run shot to make it 5-2 before the Bravehearts could blink.
Worcester got back within one in the third on home runs from St. Denis and Jeylem Sepulveda (Louisiana Tech), then took a brief 6-5 lead in the fourth. The Knights retook control with four runs in the fourth, getting RBI contributions from AJ Kolb (Towson), Phoenix Williams (Mount St. Mary’s), and Mason Campagna, then added two more in the fifth on a Connor Smith sacrifice fly and a Peter Keblinsky (University of Southern Maine) RBI single to make it 11-6.
Smith finished 1-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI. Campagna went 2-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI.
Michael Cobb (Johnson & Wales) picked up the win with 2 solid innings of relief. Jameson Dobis (Bryant) earned his second save of the season, retiring the only batter he faced in the ninth.
The Silver Knights improve to 20-20 as the Bravehearts fall to 19-22. Nashua hits the road tomorrow night to take on the New Britain Bees at 6:35 pm.
