The Lowell Spinners hosted their first game at Edward A. LeLacheur Park since their minor league days, drawing a packed house.
The Knights took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning following a 2 RBI single by Nate Kearney (Stonehill College). That lead didn’t last long, however, as the Spinners tied it up at 2 in the bottom of the inning with a 2-run home run by Lorenzo Camilleri.
Will Perkowski (University of Dayton) started the game for the Knights, striking out 6 batters through 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and 3 hits on 75 pitches.
The Knights re-took the lead in the 3rd inning and never looked back, scoring 2 runs on a Connor Smith (Gannon University) double. They later tacked on a 5th run in the 7th inning on a fielder’s choice RBI, Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine).
The Spinners made it a bit closer in the 8th inning, scoring on a wild pitch from Brandon Metivier (Bellarmine University). Still, the Knights closed things out in the 9th, giving Tommy Martorano (Eastern Connecticut University) his first save of the season. Declan Wilkes got the win, striking out 5 batters through 2 innings.
The two teams face off again on Saturday night at 6:03 at Historic Holman Stadium.
