The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to LeLacheur Park on Friday night and dropped a 10-8 decision to the Lowell Spinners despite a big seventh inning.
Nashua grabbed an early lead in the third when Phoenix Williams (Mount St. Mary’s) singled home Mason Wilson (Penn State), and added another in the fifth on a Brendan Horne (VCU) RBI single. Lowell built a 5-2 lead through six innings on RBI contributions from David Vanderzouwen, Fletcher Waterman, Quinn Murphy, and Jack Quigley.
The Knights answered with five runs in the seventh. Phoenix Williams doubled home two, Hunter Troiano (Gannon) followed with a two-run single, and an error allowed Troiano to score as well, giving Nashua a 7-5 lead. Lowell immediately responded, however, scoring four in the bottom of the seventh to retake the lead at 9-7 and never looked back.
Jordan Welch (Stony Brook) added an RBI single in the ninth to pull within two, but that was as close as the Knights would get.
Phoenix Williams and Hunter Troiano each had strong nights, combining for 5 RBI. Will Perkowski (University of Dayton) allowed 4 runs over 5 innings in the start.
The Silver Knights fall to 15-16 as the Spinners improve to 12-21. Nashua returns home tomorrow morning for a 7-inning July 4th game against the Norwich Sea Unicorns at Historic Holman Stadium at 10:30 am.
