The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Norwich Sea Unicorns on Friday morning at Historic Holman Stadium in front of 1,776 fans for the Fourth of July, winning a seven-inning contest 4-3.
Norwich took a 1-0 lead in the first when Matt Park (Quinnipiac) singled home TJ Baer (Marist). Nashua answered with three runs in the third on a Connor Smith (Gannon) RBI single, a Jordan Welch (Stony Brook) sacrifice fly, and a Hunter Troiano (Gannon) RBI single to take a 3-1 lead.
The Sea Unicorns tied it at 3 in the fifth on a Jackson Powers (St. Anselm) sacrifice fly and a Jacob Snyder RBI single. Nashua responded immediately when Connor Smith stole home to put the Knights back ahead 4-3.
With two outs in the seventh and Mike Fiatarone (Bryant) on third, Mike Villani (Stony Brook) fielded a ground ball at short and threw straight home to cut him down and end the inning.
Nigel Cross (Wentworth Institute of Technology) started and tossed 3 innings before Jameson Dobis (Bryant) picked up the win with a scoreless fifth. Josh Martino and Aaron Forgues (Hobart) each added scoreless innings to close it out, with Forgues earning the save.
The Silver Knights improve to 16-16 as the Sea Unicorns fall to 14-18. Nashua returns home Monday night to host the Lowell Spinners at Historic Holman Stadium at 6:03 pm.
