The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to Dodd Stadium in Norwich on Friday night and blanked the Sea Unicorns 16-0, with both managers agreeing to call the game in the sixth inning after rain moved in.
Nashua got on the board in the first when Phoenix Williams (Mount St. Mary’s) scored on a Connor Smith (Gannon) groundout. The Knights blew it open in the second, with an AJ Kolb (Towson) RBI groundout, a Phoenix Williams RBI single, Noah Stead (U.S. Naval Academy) stealing home, and a Ben Peterson (Saint Joseph’s) RBI double, making it 5-0.
The Knights kept rolling in the third, scoring seven more runs on RBI contributions from Max Forgione (St. Joseph’s), Noah Stead, Phoenix Williams, Ben Peterson, Connor Smith, and Nate Kearney (Stonehill), pushing the lead to 12-0. Nashua added one more in the fourth before rain ended things in the sixth with the bases loaded and the score already 16-0.
Nigel Cross (Wentworth Institute of Technology) was dominant on the mound, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 9 over 5 complete innings to earn the win.
The Silver Knights improve to 5-5 as the Sea Unicorns fall to 3-6. Nashua returns to action Sunday afternoon at Historic Holman Stadium against the New Britain Bees at 3:00 pm.
