The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to New Britain Stadium on Wednesday night and dropped a close one to the Bees 6-5, falling on a walk-off RBI single in the ninth.
New Britain struck first with two runs in the fifth inning on RBI plays from Nico Amecangelo (Lasalle) and George Slauson (St. Anselm). The Bees added two more in the sixth on an Owen Rich (Binghamton) RBI single and an unearned run on a Brady Paul error, then tacked on another in the seventh on a Tim Hennig (Binghamton) RBI single to take a 5-2 lead.
Nashua battled back. The Knights scored twice in the sixth on an unearned run and a Nate Kearney (Stonehill) sacrifice fly, then erupted for three in the eighth on a Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine) RBI double, a Vacchiano steal of home, and a Hudson Story (Bryant) RBI single to tie it at 5. But New Britain answered right back in the ninth, with Kacin Robinson (Stonehill College) singling home the winning run.
Cam Piwnicki (Brown) started for Nashua and allowed 2 runs over 4 innings. Brody Bump took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the ninth.
The Silver Knights fall to 8-11 as the Bees improve to 12-6. Nashua returns home tomorrow night to host the Lowell Spinners at Historic Holman Stadium at 6:03 pm, airing on NESN.
