The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Worcester Bravehearts on Friday night at Historic Holman Stadium, surviving a late comeback attempt to take the win 7-6.
Nashua broke things open early, plating three runs in the second inning. Ben Peterson (Saint Joseph’s) doubled home Caleb Vacchiano (University of Southern Maine), Hunter Troiano (Gannon) singled in Peterson, and Troiano came around to score on a Worcester error to make it 3-0.
The Knights added two more in the third inning on a Caleb Vacchiano RBI single and a Peter Fischer (St. Anselm) RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-0. Vacchiano and Fischer struck again in the seventh, with back-to-back RBI hits to extend the lead to 7-0.
Worcester made things interesting late, scoring three in the eighth and three more in the ninth to pull within one, but Brody Bump (Millersville) closed the door in the ninth for the save.
Will Perkowski (University of Dayton) was outstanding, tossing 6 shutout innings on just 1 hit. Jameson Dobis (Bryant) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth. Brody Bump earned his first save of the season.
The Silver Knights improve to 4-5 as the Bravehearts fall to 5-4. Nashua hits the road tomorrow night to take on the Norwich Sea Unicorns at 6:30 pm.
