The Nashua Silver Knights traveled to Fitton Field on Friday night and dropped a tough one, falling to the Worcester Bravehearts 9-8 on a walk-off wild pitch in the ninth.
Nashua jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings. Robby Grasso (Lehigh) singled home Hudson Story (Bryant) in the second, and Peter Keblinsky (University of Southern Maine) had a big third inning, singling in two runs before scoring on a Worcester error to make it 4-0.
Worcester answered with six runs in the bottom of the third on RBI contributions from Tate Bannish, Hunter St. Denis, and Cole Travers to flip the score to 6-4. The Bravehearts added two more in the fourth on another Bannish RBI single, pushing the lead to 8-4.
Nashua clawed back, getting a two-run double from Keblinsky in the fifth, a Peter Fischer (St. Anselm) sacrifice fly, and a Connor Smith (Gannon) RBI single in the sixth to tie it at 8. The Knights couldn’t hold it, however, as Jordan Luna scored on a wild pitch in the ninth to end it.
Sachin Gopal (U.S. Naval Academy) was the bright spot on the mound, tossing 4 scoreless innings in relief. Ryan Maiorano (Fairfield) took the loss after allowing the walk-off run in the ninth.
The Silver Knights fall to 7-8 as the Bravehearts improve to 8-6. Nashua returns to Fitton Field on Saturday night at 6:30 pm.
