The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the Worcester Bravehearts on Sunday at Historic Holman Stadium, getting solid pitching from top to bottom in a 3-1 win.
Nashua took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Hunter Troiano (Gannon) grounded out to score Nate Kearney (Stonehill). The Knights added two more in the fifth on a Ben Peterson (Saint Joseph’s) sacrifice fly to score Jordan Welch (Stony Brook), followed by Phoenix Williams (Mount St. Mary’s) scoring on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.
Worcester’s only run came in the seventh when Benny Hess (Keystone College) grounded out to score Gabe Malaret (Boston College), but Nashua’s bullpen shut the door from there.
Nigel Cross (Wentworth Institute of Technology) earned the win, tossing 5 shutout innings on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts. Josh Florence (Stonehill), Jameson Dobis (Bryant), and Aaron Forgues (Hobart) each added scoreless frames in relief, with Forgues earning his first save of the season.
The Silver Knights improve to 10-11 as the Bravehearts fall to 11-9. Nashua returns to action Tuesday night at the Lowell Spinners at 7:00 pm.
