The Nashua Silver Knights hosted the New Britain Bees on Sunday afternoon at Historic Holman Stadium, dropping a hard-fought game 3-1 after letting a late lead slip away.
Nashua took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Phoenix Williams (Mount St. Mary’s) singled home AJ Kolb (Towson).
The Knights and Bees played tight baseball through seven innings before New Britain tied it up in the eighth on an unearned run, with Robbie Lamond scoring on a double play grounder. The Bees then broke it open in the ninth, getting an RBI walk from George Slauson (St. Anselm) and a sacrifice fly from Ben Kuja to take a 3-1 lead.
Lucas Collins (University of Dayton) started for Nashua and was sharp, working 2.1 innings with 4 strikeouts before giving way to Josh Florence (Stonehill), who tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief. Sachin Gopal (U.S. Naval Academy) and Jameson Dobis (Bryant) each allowed a run in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. Brandon Metivier took the loss.
The Silver Knights fall to 5-6 as the Bees improve to 7-2. Nashua hits the road tomorrow at 10:30 am to take on the Westfield Starfires.
