The Knights were back under the lights at Holman Stadium as they hosted the Norwich Sea Unicorns, continuing a homestand that’s treated them well so far. After Tuesday’s rainout, the team was eager to return to action—and they didn’t disappoint. Nashua delivered a strong performance on both sides of the ball, securing a big 6–3 win to keep the momentum rolling at home.
The Knights starter in this one was Tommy Flaherty and he would get roughed around early as the first inning was filled with errors and runners on base. The Unicorns also had trouble taking care of the ball early; in the first inning, they had three errors. This would work out for the Knights as they would take advantage. Both runs in the inning by Ernie Little and Will Shaheen would come around to score on an error. After the first, the score was 2-0 Knights.
In the second the Unicorns would put their first run on the board as they closed the gap to one. The Knights however would respond as in the bottom half Will Shaheen would drive in a run to bring the lead back up to two. Flaherty would pitch a scoreless third however in the fourth he ran into some trouble again as two runners would come aboard. Following his exit Hunter Ward would allow a double to Clay Hartje who would drive in two to tie the ballgame at three.
Following Ward, Nate Kelleher-Mochak would come in and deal for the Knights he pitched four innings of great baseball. His final line on the day was no runs allowed on two hits while also striking out two batters. The Knights’s offense would be at a standstill until the 7th where Jake Haarde would rip and single past the second baseman to score the go-ahead run.
Haarde said postgame “It was a great, good game all the way through and come around for the team to get the go-ahead run in”.
The offense would not be done as they tacked on two more runs in the ninth to seal the deal. Brennan Rumpf would then come in and shut the door giving the Knights a big win in this crucial homestand. Nashua will be back in action tomorrow at home.
