The comeback kids have done it again! The Nashua Silver Knights rallied late to edge out the Worcester Bravehearts, 6–5, at Holman Stadium, wrapping up their homestand on a high note.
This game was a wild one for the Knights as they got off to one of their slowest starts of the year in the 4th inning after multiple infield singles by the Bravehearts they would strike. Jake Hajdu would come up to the plate and launch one over the fence for a grand slam to make the score 4-0 Worcester. The 4th was the first time that the visitors got to Knights starter Matt Fitzgibbon all game as he was phenomenal through three.
The Knights’ bullpen in this one was very good following their starter. Rob Gilchrist went three innings, allowing no runs while striking out two.
In the 7th the Knights offense woke up as James Benestad would draw a walk to start the inning. He would later come around to score on a Dylan Littlefield single to give the Knights their first run of the game. The kids would keep going though as Cole Patterson would walk to get aboard. With a stolen base and an error by the catcher, Patterson would move to third, allowing Ernie Little to drive him in and make the score 4-2 Bravehearts after seven.
Kurtius Rourke would come onto the pitch in the 9th and would allow a run to make the score 5-2 Worcester going into the bottom half of the frame.
With their backs against the wall, the Knights rallied and responded following a night of prior frustration. River Hart would start the inning with a walk and Joey Current would single to gain some momentum for the Knights. Patterson would then knock in a run on a single to push the deficit to two. Little the next batter did what he had done all season and got aboard again for the Knights with a single and an RBI to make the score 5-4. Then more magic happened as Anthony Grabau singled to left field to score the tying run and send the game to extra innings.
The tenth was another movie on its own as Brandon Metivier would let a run come across as the Hearts started with a ghost runner at second to start the inning. The Knights again with their backs against the wall would deliver. Will Shaheen would be the ghost runner at second for the Knights to start the inning. The party got going early in the tenth as Will Burns would double into the gap to tie the game. Following a Jake Haarde put out he would move the pinch runner for Burns, Jordan Henriquez to third to be 90 feet away from scoring the tying run. Dave Yorke would then step up to the plate with the game on his bat. Yorke would not be pressured by the moment however as he would single a ball to the left field to win the game for the Knights. The comeback kids did it again and now move to 10-8 on the season with the win.
