The Nashua Silver Knights took the field this afternoon for a pivotal matchup against the Vermont Lake Monsters, who entered the game sitting higher in the standings. Nashua’s offense came out firing, putting runs on the board early, but the pitching staff struggled to keep pace. In a back-and-forth, arcade-style slugfest, the Knights ultimately fell short, dropping the game by a score of 13-9.
The Knights’ and Lake Monsters’ starters both pitched well at the start of this ballgame; however, they both got into some trouble. For Nashua Ethan Hunt was good through the first three however in the 4th it would all unravel. Hunt would allow the Lake Monsters to load the bases. He tried his best to get out of the jam however he could not as the Lake Monsters would strike for four in the inning as they broke the game wide open.
The Knights as always however would respond in the bottom of the inning as Joe Zorc would continue his hot streak as he doubled in a run to cut the lead to three. Following Zorc, Dylan Littlefield would double to the gap to cut the lead to just two.
In the 5th both teams would strike again as the Knights bullpen came into work in the top half of the frame. They would give up two runs as Vermont pushed their lead from two to four. The Knights would get one back in the bottom half as they would score a run on a Patrick Shrake single.
The Knights would cut the lead again in the 7th as they would draw a bases-loaded walk to make the lead just two for the Lake Monsters. The Monsters however would not be contemptuous with the two-run lead as in the 8th their offense exploded again. They would score four times in the innings to officially put the game out of reach for the Knights or so they thought. The Knights countered with a run in the 8th and put up three more in the 9th however this was still not enough. The Vermont offense would explode again in the 9th as they put four runs up on the board to give them their 13-9 victory in an offensive explosion.
The knight’s offense was led by Shrake, Zorc, and Patterson who all had three hits in the loss at home. The Knights will have an off day tomorrow before being back in action on Tuesday.
