Tuesday night was one the Nashua Silver Knights will want to quickly forget, as they fell at home to the Norwich Sea Unicorns in lopsided fashion.
Looking to kick off the week with a statement win, the Knights instead struggled to find any rhythm on either side of the ball. Norwich took control early and never looked back, cruising to a dominant 10–1 victory at Holman Stadium.
The Knights’ offense, defense, and pitching in this game were all subpar as they fell big-time. Nashua would end up using five pitchers on the mound before the game was over, and the Unicorns scored their runs during major rallies in the 2nd and 8th innings.
In the 2nd they would get starter Tommy Flaherty who threw decently in this one but only last three innings. In total, the Unicorns were able to get 8 batters up to the plate while compiling three hits with a Nashua error to help them out. They would score three runs in the frame in total.
Their second rally would come in the 8th versus the new Knights pitcher Charlie Cariello. This time they would be able to get their whole lineup in the rally as they pounded 6 hits which led to 5 total runs in the inning. In just these two frames the Knights were outscored 8-0.
There were flashes from the offense for Nashua however nothing major. Jake Haarde was able to drive in a run in the 6th as he was able to put the Knights on the scoreboard. The Knights were able to rack up hits at the top of the order between Cole Patterson and Patrick Shrake, however this was not enough to produce more than a run.
Nashua will need a rest before they get back in action tomorrow. It is a pivotal time for the Futures League as all-star rosters will be announced soon and we head towards August and the playoffs.
