The Silver Knights were back in action tonight, hitting the road to Vermont for a matchup against the Lake Monsters. With the summer season heating up, every game counts — and this one offered another chance for Nashua to make a statement against one of the league’s toughest opponents. The Knights got another great start in this one and it was none other than Matt Fitzgibbon who got the ball for the visitors. He shoved in this one as he only let up a run through his five innings of work on the night. The lone run that Fitzgibbon let up was in the first inning. The rest of the night the Knights offense did the job.
To start it off in the first Ernie Little got on base to start the inning and this was followed by a few put-outs to move him into scoring position. River Hart would then drive Little in for the game’s first run and give the visitors a 1-0 lead. In the second the offense kept going as Will Burns would get on base to start the inning. He would be driven in by Anthony Grabau who doubled into the gap. Following Grabau, Jake Haarde would get his bat going as singled into left field to drive in another run making the score 3-1 Knights after 2. The Knights would draw again in the third marking three straight innings of scoring. This time it was Burns driving in Hart on a massive double toward the gap to make the score 4-1
The Knights’s offense would hold still for a couple of innings however they would get going again in the 6th. Patrick Sharake and Burns would get on base to start the inning and then Little would drive in Shrake to put another run on the board. Burns would come around to score a Grabau putout to make the score 6-1 Knights. The offense would not be done as they exploded in the 7th for more runs. The inning would start with a one-out Jack Kidwell walk, a Shrake single, and a Burns walk to load the bases. Then Cole Patterson would step up to the plate and walk after a great at-bat which resulted in a run crossing home in Kidwell. Grabau would be up next and he would do it again as he drove in Shrake and Burns making the score 9-1 Knights. There would be more however as Haarde would keep the party going, doubling into the gap and driving in two to give the Knights a huge 11-1 lead.
The Monsters would get a run in the seventh in response. In the eighth, they would also get a run off a Sean McMillan home run to make the score 11-3. The Monsters kept rallying as Jeremy Sosa would drive in a run to make it an 11-4 ballgame.
The Knights were led by Grabau and Haarde in this one as they both totaled two hits. Grabau would drive in four with Haarde driving in three in the win. The Knights will be back in action versus the Monsters tomorrow on the road.
