Westfield, MA The Knights hit the road for the final time as they traveled to take on the Westfield Starfires, who recently beat them by a score of 11-4 the night prior. In this battle, however, it was more tightly contested; in the end, the Knights would fall again as they dropped a heartbreaker.

A big inning would again kill Nashua, as three out of four Westfield runs were scored in the 5th inning of this ballgame. Josh Frometta would have the big hit of the inning as he was able to single in two versus Knights starter Caden Smith, who pitched well in this one. Smith, minus the 5th inning, was spectacular as he gave his club four innings of shutout baseball.

The Knights’ runs came in bunches in this ballgame as they scored three runs in three different innings. Their first run in the 3rd was produced by a Jack Kidwell single that would score Tommy Ahlers to give the Knights their only lead of the ballgame. Before their next run in the 6th, however, they were climbing out of a hole following the Westfield 5th inning rally. However, Nashua grit would show in the Thai ballgame, as in the 6th, Scott Donahue would launch one over the fence for a home run to cut the deficit to just one with plenty of baseball left to play.

The grit would keep showing in the 7th as the Knights put together another rally. Brenden Walsh would use his legs to get into scoring position, and from there, Ahlers would drive him in on a single, tying the game up at three. The lead would be short-lived, however, as in the bottom of the 7th, the Starfires’ offense would be back on the attack. It was one pitch that hurt Nashua in the end as Frometta struck again, launching a home run over the fence to give his team the lead and eventual game-winning hit.

Pitching from top to bottom was great. Reliever Nick Willand would have another strong outing as he had two shutout innings immediately following Smith. Then Charlie Cariello came onto the pitch, and he did well, minus the long ball he gave up, as he was able to also throw two innings while just giving up the lone run. Ahlers was the catalyst offensively as he had a monster game, going 4-5 with some key hits in big spots.

Nashua will now head back home before closing out their season on Saturday night at Holman Stadium versus the Vermont Lake Monsters.
