The fans were in full force on Father’s Day as the Nashua Silver Knights hosted the New Britain Bees at Holman Stadium. Coming off a strong win on Saturday, the Knights looked to build momentum and keep the good vibes rolling as they continued a long homestand in front of a lively hometown crowd.
The game was filled with energy and excitement as the Knights rallied in the 8th inning to capture a 7-3 victory over the Bees. The Knights starter in this one was Ethan Hunt and he would get into trouble early. In the second inning, the Bees would start the scoring as they started to rally. Brayden Mazzoni would put the visitors up early as he hit a sac fly to drive in a run. David Pengel would keep the scoring for the Bees as he would single in their second run of the inning making it 2-0 Bees after two. Hunt would lock in following his rough 2nd however as he would toss a scoreless 4th and 5th innings to end his day.
The Knights’ offense was a catalyst in this victory. They got started in the third inning with a bases-loaded walk by River Hart to put them on the board. The next batter Joey Current would walk also to tie the game at two. New Britain would escape the jam however as they held Nashua to just the two in the inning.
The bullpens would be great in this one for both teams as their immediate relief to their starters both pitched well. For the Bees Carson Parrott tossed three scoreless frames while not allowing a hit. The Knights relief in Nolan Medeiros would also give up no hits as he went two innings in this one.
In the 7th the Knights offense would get going again as Jack Balcer would put a ball into the air to score Ernie Little on a sac fly from third. The Knights would lead 3-2 following the 7th. In the 8th there was a lot to unpack. First starting in the top half of the inning the Bees got back on the board to tie the game at 3-3. This time it was Breenan Staubley singling to right field to drive in the tying run.
In the bottom of the 8th Nashua guarded the gates as they put their bats to work. Will Burns would start the bottom half of the inning by singling to get on. Will Shaheen would then try to get aboard and he was followed by a Hart walk to load them up. From there Current would drive in two with a single to give the Knights a 5-3 lead. They were done however as they would tack on their last two runs on a fielding error by the Bees to make the game 7-3.
Scott Longo would come in for Nashua in the 9th and close the door as he would seal the deal and the ballgame. The Knights now have won two in a row and are 2-0 so far on their homestand. They will have an off day tomorrow before getting back into action on Tuesday. Manager Nick Guarino said, “It feels good to be back at Holman and get the win”. It sure does feel good as the Knights are now back up to .500 with the win.
