Baseball is a game of 27 outs — and scoring more runs than the other team. The Nashua Silver Knights did exactly that this afternoon at Holman Stadium, securing a statement 3–0 shutout victory over the Norwich Sea Unicorns. Behind dominant pitching and timely offense, the Knights controlled the game from start to finish and picked up a crucial win at home.
As mentioned before this game focused on the Knights’ pitching and defense, with Tommy Flaherty set to get the ball for the Knights. His day was a breeze as he cruising through his first two innings retiring the side in order. He would allow Norwich to have a runner reach third in the 4th however with a big out he would get out of the inning. Flaherty would go one more as he would close out his start after five innings.
The Knights would also get on the board starting in the 2nd inning as they would get the bases loaded for Cole Patterson. With the lefty at the plate, he would be hit by a pitch to walk in Will Burns and give the Knights a 1-0 lead early.
Nashua would not score again until the 8th as their bullpen would hold the lead. Hunter Ward and Josh Florence who came on in relief were great as they held Norwich to just one hit in three innings of work to keep the lead where it was.
Then the bats would come and in a big way. Joe Zorc would put a ball over the fence for a home run to give Nashua some insurance heading into the 9th inning. They would also add on another insurance run in the inning as Keldrin Rodriquez would drive in Burns as he scored his second run of the game.
In the 9th the pitching continued as Kyan Bagshaw closed the door swiftly on Norwich. The Knights picked up a crucial win at home and they were led by their pitching staff who tossed a combined shutout. The Knights are rolling and will look to keep at it again tomorrow against Westfield.
