Nashua Clinches Spot in Championship(Brockton, MA): After a 4-game skid, the Silver Knights picked the right day to get back on the winning track. They beat the Rox 8-3 on Sunday afternoon, and with the help of a Westfield
Starfires come-from-behind win over the North Shore Navigators, clinched a spot in the FCBL
championship series against the Worcester Bravehearts. The Knights still have a shot at the #1
seed, but will need some help.
After Brockton went up 1-0 in the first, Nashua struck for 4 in the second inning. Dylan Jones
(Franklin Pierce) led off the frame with a single, before late-addition power hitter Kyle Bouchard
(Nichols) hit his first home run of the season. Troy Schreffler (Maryland) would add an RBI
single, scoring Brett Anderson (Hartford) and Jack Arend (Nichols) would score on a Nick
Shumski (Merrimack) groundout.
In the 6 th , the Knights extended their lead with 4 more runs after Brockton had closed the gap
and made it a 4-3 game. The Knights reeled off 4 walks to open the inning, the final being
Arend, who scored Bouchard in the process. Nate Cormier (Nichols) would get a SAC fly to score
Max Viera (Northeastern). During Shumski’s AB, a wild pitch would score Anderson from third.
Arend would then score on a SAC fly from the starting shortstop.
Nick Guarino (Clark) was great, yet again for Nashua, as manager Kyle Jackson went to him for
one of the biggest games of the season, picking up his league-leading 4 th win. He went 6IP,
giving up 3R, 2ER, 3BB, and 6K. Jake Thibault (Merrimack) was solid in extended relief for his 4 th
appearance of the summer, allowing the Silver Knights to save their bullpen. He went 3IP, giving
up just 1 hit with 2K. Kevin Dow (UMass) took the loss for Brockton. His final line was 4IP, 4ER
on 7H and 4 strikeouts.
The Knights stand at 21-16, having clinched a playoff spot, Nashua finishes the regular season
by hosting North Shore Tuesday at 6PM, before traveling to Westfield on Wednesday
afternoon. Details are TBD for the championship series VS Worcester. Subscribe to the FCBL
