Knights Drop 5th StraightThe Nashua Silver Knights headed to Bristol, CT in hopes of avenging their two losses from last week against the Blues but fell short once again. Evan Christopulos (Bentley) started on the mound for Nashua, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out four batters.
The Knights started the game strong with a trio of singles to score Kyle Sandstrom (Charleston Southern) and get Nashua on the board early. The Blues were able to answer in the same inning scoring Austin White to tie the game. Bristol took the lead in the second with a sacrifice hit from JT Mounce to bring Will Reiner home.
Joshua Roberge (Wheaton) faced five batters in the fifth inning, letting up three hits and two runs, before Derek Goldrick (Quinnipiac) subbed in. In his first hit for the Silver Knights, Connor Blandini (Southern New Hampshire) singled to bring Benjamin Cowles (Maryland) home. Goldrick struck out the side in the bottom of the sixth for the Knights.
The bottom of the seventh was a long one for the Knights defense. Luis Atiles (New England College) replaced Joe Bramanti (Maine) at third, and after letting up a single and two walks, Owen Batchelder (Northeastern) headed to the mound to sub for Goldrick. Batchelder struggled to find the strike zone walking two batters and hitting another. Bristol was able to score four runs before the Knights made the pitching change to Manny Ray (Tufts) who was able to end the inning with the bases loaded.
The eighth inning didn’t produce any hits for either team. Bristol’s Tommy Hughes struck out two straight and then walked the next two Knights batters, but both Dupere and Cowles were left on base as Nashua fell to Bristol 2-8.
The Knights move to 12-15 on the season and will face the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. |
