Outfield Has Breakout Week

Northeastern: The Huskies were back in action this week after almost two weeks without playing a game. The first opponent would be their hometown rival Boston College. Wyatt Scotti would take the ball coming out of the bullpen for the first time this year. He would toss 2 relief innings, allowing 2 runs, and striking out 2 eagles. The birds would go on to win the game 5-3, giving Scotti his first loss of the season. Northeastern would go on to beat UMass the very next day, and then sweep Hofstra in their first conference series of the season. The Huskies are now 14-6 on the season, and despite the losing effort, Wyatt Scotti currently posts an impressive 3-1 record and a 1.38 era.

UMass: In a tough week for the Minutemen, center fielder Ryan Coleman broke through his early season struggles to put together a great week at the plate. In the 5 games against Northeastern and conference opponent Saint Joe’s, Coleman hit .266 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, and drew a walk. In the final game of the series against Saint Joe’s, Coleman saw himself in the leadoff spot, where he went 1-4 on the day.

Penn State: The Nittany Lions picked up two conference wins this weekend, splitting with both Michigan State and Purdue. In the series, freshman Kyle Hannon got a pinch-hit opportunity that he did not squander. Hannon came off the bench and tripled in his lone at bat of the weekend before coming around to score.

#16 SNHU: The Penmen keep on rolling as they remain undefeated on the season at 8-0. In their sweep of Saint Anselm, outfielder Alex Kennedy drew a start in the lineup. Kennedy made the most of his time in the lineup, going 2-3 on the day, with one of those hits being a solo homerun. Kennedy would come around to score twice in the game and drew a walk. SNHU will look to stay undefeated this week in their 4-game series against St. Michael’s

Saint Joseph’s (ME): Lefty George Welch saw a lot of action as he took the ball for two starts on the week. Welch’s first outing would be against #11 Southern Maine, where he tossed 2 scoreless innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 2 as well. Welch received the no decision, but the Monks would upset the ranked opponent 5-0. Welch’s second outing of the week would be against Dean College. Welch again threw the ball well, going 3 innings, striking out 5, and allowing just one earned run. The Monks would end up losing this battle, but improved to 12-10 on the season.

Salve Regina: The Seahawks continued their domination of the CCC this week, improving to 7-1-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference. Righty reliever, Graham Jeffries, took the mound for his second outing of the season to face Suffolk. Jeffries threw 1 inning, did not allow a hit, allowed 1 run, and struck out 2 batters. This would be Salve Regina’s lone loss on the season thus far. They will look to continue their impressive season with a 5-game set against Roger Williams next week.

Plymouth State: It was a roller coaster of a week for Plymouth State, after losing Game 1 of a 4-game series to Keene State 25-1, Noah Wachter took the ball to turn the tides. Plymouth would go on the win the remaining 3 games of the series, starting with Wachter picking up the W in a 15-5 win in game 2. Wachter tossed 4.2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, and striking out 7 owls in the victory. Plymouth State moves back to .500 on the season, and Wachter moves to 1-1 and has struck out 13 batters through his 9.1 innings of work on the season.
