Silver Knights Show Out in College Baseball's Return

It had been 339 days since the last NCAA baseball game, and the Silver Knights of the past and present wasted no time getting back to business. In an opening weekend littered with matchups you typically have to wait until the College World Series to see, the return of college baseball did not disappoint.

Elon - Incoming Silver Knight, and freshman relief pitcher Tristan Corcoran saw the mound not once, but twice in his first collegiate series. Between his 2 outings he tossed 2 hitless innings, registered his first collegiate strikeout, and gave up just one earned run against UNC-Greensborro. Elon dropped the series to UNCG 2-1

VCU - The 2020 NH Gatorade Player of the Year, and 2021 Silver Knight Connor Hujsak got his first collegiate start at shortstop against UNC-Wilmington. He went 0-2 with a sacrifice bunt in the loss to UNCW. Virginia Commonwealth was swept in their opening series by UNCW.

Northeastern - The school with the most Silver Knight alums proved they are a force to be reckon with in 2021 as they took on #17 Wake Forest in a 3 game set. 2019 and 2020 Silver Knight Jared Dupere led the way on the weekend, hitting .462 with a double, homer, and 4 RBI. Freshman Max Viera started all 3 games at the DH spot and hit .357 and an RBI. Viera registered 5 hits in his first 3 collegiate games against a top 25 opponent. 2017 and 2018 Silver Knight Teddy Beaudet also started all 3 games behind the dish and notched an RBI of his own. The Silver Knights also had 3 pitchers represented in the series, as Cam Schlittler started game 3 of the series. He went 5 innings and struck out 8 batters while giving up 2 earned runs. 2017 Silver Knight Kyle Murphy, who's brother will be on the 2021 Silver Knight squad, started the series opener, going 5 innings as well and striking out 7. Brandon Dufault from the 2018 and 2020 Silver Knight teams saw relief action in 2 of the 3 games in the series. He threw a combined 2 innings and registered 3 strikeouts while picking up the loss in game 1 of the series. Northeastern took 1 of the 3 games from #17 Wake Forest.

Boston College - Another roster highly represented by Silver Knight Alumni, Boston College started their season with a sweep against Charleston Southern. 2016 Silver Knight Dante Baldelli had a monster start to his season as he hit .308 with a double and 2 home runs while driving in 3 runs. Pre-Season All-American Cody Morissette also registered 2 hits and 3 RBI in the series.

Charleston Southern - On the flip side of this matchup was 2019 outfielder Kyle Sandstrom. Sandstrom started in Center Field for all 3 games of the series and hit .250 while driving in a pair of runs.
