Silver Knights go 1-2 on Opening Weekend


Game One:

Worcester’s’ bats pounded 13 runs on 12 hits and took advantage of three Silver Knights errors as the Bravehearts’ pitching duo of starter Sebastian Gruszecki and reliever Tyler Patane only allowed two runs off of five hits and four walks.

First baseman Mack Cheli led the way for the Bravehearts going two for five with three RBIs and two runs scored. Left fielder Dakota McFadden went two for five with one RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Brett Coffel went one for three with two RBIs and one run scored.

The only two runs for the Silver Knights came in the fifth inning. Third baseman Teddy Beaudet and center fielder Luke Tyree walked to put runners at first and second with one out. Shortstop Tyler Littlefield then hit an RBI single to score Beaudet, putting runners on the corners. With one out, Thomas Joyce advanced to first base on a fielders choice that scored Luke Tyree.

Gruszecki earned the win for the Bravehearts pitching five innings giving up two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven. Patane can into the game for relief in the sixth inning, going the rest of the game clean only giving up one hit and a walk while striking out five more.

The Silver Knights went through five pitchers including starter Dan Shaw, who took the loss giving up five earned runs on seven hits in two and a third innings. Manny Ray came into the game and gave up five runs, none earned, on four hits. Aidan Welch, Spencer Langdon, and Derek Duffy all had clean innings to stop the bleeding for the Knights.


Game Two:

Both the Brockton Rox and the Silver Knights were held scoreless until the relievers for both clubs gave up the first runs of the game in the seventh. Nashua was in control until back-to-back pass balls and an extra base hit gave the Rox the late lead that they would keep.

Second baseman Hunter Tralli led the way for the Rox finishing two for four with three RBI and one run scored. Matt Ronai and Kalen Puckett give the Rox the late game lead with some heads up base running on two pass balls at the dish.

Centerfielder Luke Tyree led the Knights effort finishing two for three with two RBI. First baseman Thomas Joyce also played a role in this one pinch hitting for JD Funk. Joyce went one for two with a key double that put two runners in scoring position that would eventually score.

Caleb Wurster got the start for the Rox and went five scoreless innings striking out four. Chris McGrory came into the game in relief and earned the win going three and two thirds giving up four earned runs on six hits and striking out four. Jack Mahala came into the game in the ninth with two outs and records the save.

Pat Maybach took the hill for the Knights going five scoreless innings giving up four hits and striking out four. Mike White came in for relief going two innings and giving up a two-run homerun and struck out three. Andrew Roman acquired the loss going two thirds of an inning while giving up three unearned runs. Michael Guerrero pitches gets the last out in the ninth.


Game Three:

The North Shore Navigators took an early lead in this one scoring three runs in the first. The Knights slowly chipped away at that lead scoring four runs in five innings. The score was close with the Navigators winning with the score at five to four going into the bottom of the seventh. The Knights then put up four runs and would take the lead over the Navigators which they would barely keep resulting in the Knights first win of the season on their opening day with a final score of eight to seven.

Short Stop Tyler Littlefield led the way for the Knights win going two for two with two walks and hitting his first homerun of the season. First baseman Thomas Joyce goes two for three with two RBI and one run scored.  Right fielder Andrew Gorham goes one for three with a key two RBI double.

Short Stop Andrew Olszak led the effort for North Shore going four for five with an RBI and a run scored. Center fielder Jeff Mejia goes two for four scoring three runs.

Starter Matt Demma goes three innings for the Navigators giving up two runs on four hits including a homerun and a walk. Zach Begin then goes three innings giving up another two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three. Reliever Shayne Audet takes the loss in this one going one inning allowing four earned runs on two hits and three walks. Devin ODonovan then pitches a clean ninth inning.

Silver Knights starter Luke Dawson goes five innings giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits and a walk while striking out six. Spencer Bergeron and Nick Couhig each go an inning scoreless while Couhig picks up the win for the Knights. Derek Duffy come in for relief and gives up an unearned run while recording three strikeouts. Aidan Welch comes into the game in the ninth and gives up one unearned run while getting the save for the Knights.
